It's tempting to judge D4 items by the biggest number on the tooltip, but crafting choices can matter just as much. A promising drop may need a different affix, the right tempered property, or a better Legendary Aspect before it earns a place in your build. Horadric gear adds another wrinkle: an extra line on a weapon or piece of armor won't do anything unless the matching Talisman set is active. Check that interaction before you spend materials or swap out a ring you already rely on.

Make Your Crafting Materials Count

The Occultist can replace an eligible affix, so pick the weakest line rather than trying to fix every stat on the item. Be careful with Greater Affixes, though. Replace one through ordinary Enchanting and it loses its Greater status. At the Blacksmith, Tempering adds properties from available manuals, but attempts are limited and the result you want isn't guaranteed. Look at the possible rolls first. Once an item has the stats and power you need, Masterworking can improve it further. That's usually a better investment than pouring materials into a piece you expect to replace soon. The Horadric Cube has its own options, so read its recipes instead of assuming they work like the other crafting menus.

Getting a Horadric Set Working

In the Season 16 public test, Horadric Legendary items are tied to Talisman sets. A matching ring or amulet adds one to its named set count, while a weapon or armor piece carries one associated effect. You'll need at least the matching two-piece bonus active for that weapon or armor effect to work. A charm and a matching ring can reach that threshold. Sounds simple, until you replace the ring and the extra line goes quiet. Check the Talisman screen after any jewelry swap, and remember that a set tied to one piece won't activate a line belonging to another. The preview values and interactions may change before release.

Choose Stats Your Build Can Use

Different builds want different things. A Necromancer using minions might look for Rathma's Waking Touch, with options such as minion Attack Speed or ranks to Skeleton skills. A Sorcerer focused on Frost may prefer cooldown reduction from Breath of the Frozen Sea. Don't overlook ordinary stats while chasing those effects. Maximum Life and resistances can keep you standing, and resource generation may let you cast more often. Conditional damage only pays off when its condition is met, so a bonus against Vulnerable enemies is less appealing if you rarely make enemies Vulnerable. When comparing D4 items for sale with the gear you already have, consider weapon damage, skill ranks, defenses, and any set bonus you'd lose. The best-looking roll isn't always the one that makes a dungeon run feel easier.
